ENDLESS SUMMER
Windy but wonderful
On a very blustery, half-term holiday at ChloBo Cottage we discovered two nearby Cornish gems with our little girl. The first, was the Wild Café at Bedruthan Steps Hotel & Spa. We had an amazing lunch together as we sat at our window table with views overlooking Mawgan Porth. As it was a bit too windy today (80mph winds!), it was nice to still be able to experience this part of the dramatic north Cornish coastline. However windy it may be, it still looks just as beautiful.
The menu at the Wild Café is pretty extensive with a great variety of meals. Our little one loved her kid’s stone-baked pizza (as did we!), whist we opted for a ‘small plate’ fish, chips and crushed peas (not at all so small) and a delicious spiced lamb burger from the specials board.
Having a nose around the hotel, we discovered a play area for kids ticked away in a very stylish lounge, also with views of the ocean, plus an enormous ‘jungle tumble’ ball pool area. The great thing is, you’d never know these fun places were there – tucked away into quiet spaces they don’t detract from the grown up, design-led feel of the hotel. It’s all very chic!
In the afternoon, we headed off to Lusty Glaze Beach. It’s spectacular and private and is actually quite sheltered from the crazy winds, so our little one enjoyed playing in the sea’s foam and watching the huge waves being thrown dramatically onto the shore.
We then retreated into the beach-front restaurant for a hot chocolate to warm up, which was easy enough to do as they keep the giant wood-burner going all day. Even on such a cold and blowy day, you can still experience the coast from the comfort of a window seat in the covered, all-weather terrace, which is stunning because the ocean actually tumbles incredibly close during high tide.
A reminder today that however cold, wet or windy it might be, just wrap up and go explore because there is so much to discover on your doorstep and still plenty of fun to be had.
Have fun!
